VH1 2010 Divas Salute To The Troops

"If anyone gets a morale boost from a show like this it's me" ~ Jeffrey Ross

Partnering with the USO, VH1's 2010 Divas Salute To The Troops provided some top shelf entertainment to 23,000 military personnel on R&R at US Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego and Camp Arifjan in Kuwait.

Hosted by comedienne Kathy Griffin with performances by Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Heart, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Keri Hilson, Paramore, MC Lyte, Sugarland, and comic Jeffrey Ross.

Also giving shout-outs to the troops: Beyonce, Pink, Ke$ha, Fergie, Brandy, Snookie, The Situation, Carrie Underwood, Michael Strahan, and Taylor Swift.

The most moving moments of the spectacular event were the Portrait Of A Hero segments showing profiles of the service men and women and also the canine units, the work they do and the moral support given to the troops from their families at home.

To help the troops keep in touch with their loved ones, Old Navy stores are having a week-long challenge to their customers to donate 100 phone minutes for $5.00. Old Navy Facebook fans can do a mobile device check-in, claim a Facebook charity deal, and Old Navy will match the $5.00 100 phone minute challenge. The Facebook check-in match will be available until Thursday December 9, 2010.

Your budget a little tight but you'd still like to show the troops some love---get your paps on and share a photo with VH1 through Facebook Connect. Your pic will be added to VH1's mosaic picture For every photo shared VH1 will donate $1.00 up to $10,0000.00 to the USO's Wounded Warrior project Operation Enduring Care.

VH1's Divas Salute To The Troops originally aired on Sunday December 5th. For those of you who like myself were watching Showtime's Dexter, no worries. Encore airings for Divas are scheduled for Monday December 6th at 4:00pm, Tuesday December 7th at 11:30am and 8:00pm, Saturday December 11th at 9:00pm, Sunday December 12th at midnight and 1:00pm, Tuesday December 14th at 10:00pm, Wednesday December 13th at 3:00pm, and Saturday December 18th at 9:00am.

TCM Moguls And Movie Stars A Seven Part Documentary Series On The History Of Hollywood Episode 1 Peepshow Pioneers

film reel and clapboard photo by sookietex

TCM's seven part series Moguls and Movie Stars imparts a history of movie making from the late 17th century to the 6th decade of the 20th century. Some may be surprised to learn that while movie making came of age in Hollywood, it was not born there. Cinema's impetus resulted from an device by Danish mathematician Thomas Rasmussen Walgensten. Walgensten's invention was upgraded by Dutch scientist Christiaan Huygens. The device was a prototype slide projector known as Laterna Magica or "a magic lantern". Theoretically it was actually the ancient Greeks, and later Leonardo da Vinci who first had the idea for such a contraption, but there is no documentation that they were able to produce a functioning projector.

Jumping ahead a few centuries to New Jersey in the USA, the "wizard of menlo park" Thomas Alva Edison announces he "plans to create an instrument that would do for the eyes, what the phonograph does for the ears".

Fear not gentle viewer, TCM's doc does not limit itself to science and formulae. The series effortlessly flows toward the grit, gossip, glam, and glitz that evolved into modern day Hollywood.

TCM's Moguls And Movie Stars airs new episodes Mondays at 8:00pm with a replay at 11:00pm and on Wednesdays at 10:00pm If you've missed the previous week's installment those episodes replay Mondays at 7:00pm
