TrueBlood has pop culture by the jugular. The HBO hit in it's 2nd season has the world in the grip of fang fever. For me the thing that's the most fun about that are on-line debates about who's the hotter vampire, Bill or Eric. Also the battle of the vamps polls with a crossover element that pit the TrueBlood vampires against Twilight's Robert Pattinson. Pattinson's a cutie, but a bit under seasoned for my taste, and i've not seen Twilight, so i can't offer an opinion of his vampire tactics.
i can speak to the hotness factor of Bill, Sookie, Eric, Tara, 'Eggs' Benedict, Lafayette, Jason---oh heck the entire TrueBlood cast is Louisiana in August hot! My new fav character is Terry BelleFleur. Goodness even his name is sexy. Terry played by ruggedly handsome Todd Lowe is the just the right mix of masculinity and vulnerability. my other fav is [as she's referred to by fans, baby-vamp] Jessica. Funny, infuriating, tragic, sexy. Jessica, played by Deborah Ann Woll is all that and more.
my wish for more screen time---and it still could stand some increase, for the character Deputy Kenya came true. i'm still peeved that her image, bio, etc have not been included on HBO's site. Sheriff Dearborne, and Det. Andy Bellefleur are there---Deputy Kenya played by Tanya Wrightshould be too.
Sookie Stackhouse discovering Dallas hotel bellman Barry is a telepath, was fun. They have good chemistry, strong potential for a good platonic bond. Hope he gets over wanting to distance himself from her. The reveal of shape-shifter Daphne's secret was fun. At last, Sam has someone to whom he can relate. i'm still troubled by the scratches on her back when she's in her human form. Is Maryann responsible for those. Still, i hope it works out for Daphne and Sam. Speaking of Maryann---that maenad skeers the beJesus out of me---i don't care if the woman does throw the best get-togethers BonTemps has ever seen. TrueBlood gets better and better every episode. my fav scenes from Season 2 episode 5 "Never Let Me Go" are when Sookie tells Bill he "has a heart, whether it beats or not". A few seconds later Bill asks in that irresistible drawl, "what do you want Sookie? Say it" and she replies she "wants him...every which way". Whew! Lawdy Lawdy Lawdy Ms.Stackhouse and Mr.Compton.

Nip/Tuck fans are you finding it impossible to wait 6 more months for the return of FX' Golden Globe Award winner? Well good news, the FX network has changed the start month for Nip/Tuck's 6th season from January 2010 to October 2009. That's right, the show will return in 3 not 6 months. Nip/Tuck season 6 will have 10 episodes. What we don't have yet is a specific day and time. In it's previous 5 seasons FX aired Nip/Tuck Tuesdays at 10:00pm, but that is not the case for season 6. FX is giving the Tuesday 10:00pm time slot to another of it's shows, Sons of Anarchy.
While i am thrilled the network is bringing Nip/Tuck back sooner than expected, i'm a bit peeved that they are changing it's day. i'm guessing many of you are like me---when you have a favorite show, you look forward to the day and hour that you've come to know it to be scheduled. You have a mental muscle memory for it. You may even schedule your day around the evening's tv viewing. In fact, i and some friends have certain rituals we do/did Tuesdays prior to watching Nip/Tuck. And now, suddenly, even though [thankfully] the show is still on the air, you have to make an adjustment to your viewing when the network decides to tinker with it's schedule.
i'm guessing FX wants to increase the ratings for Sons Of Anarchy, and to that end they have moved it to Nip/Tuck's former night and time. The thought being that fans who may not be aware of the schedule change will tune in out of habit and once there will remain even though their intent was to watch Nip/Tuck. i'm also guessing since "Nip/Tuck is the most-watched scripted program in the history of the FX network", the schedulers figure it's fans will follow [and they'd be right] whenever/wherever the network places it.
Even so, i thought by shuffling Nip/Tuck's schedule from Tuesdays at 10:00pm, FX is treating it's 5 seasons and counting ratings winner [and by extension it's fans] shabbily in it's 2 remaining seasons. But i'm trying to forgive the network, for after all they have shortened the wait time for season 6's premiere from 6 months to 3. i'm also trying to rid myself of the thought that this gift may come with a hefty price. That is to say that since it's returning sooner, logic dictates it may also end sooner---2010 rather than 2011. i have no confirmation of that, just bracing myself for what may be coming as Nip/Tuck ends.
Of course before that happens, i'll keep an eye out for announcement of a specific season 6 premiere date and time.
O.K. what is the deal with Nurse Jackie and pharmacist Eddie? Is she having sex with him because she is genuinely attracted to him or is it just to score drugs? Is Eddie having sex with Jackie because he's gotta have her or is he only thinking he's got a sure and steady thing with her as long as she needs a sure and steady percodan supply? Don't get me wrong, i'm no prude, although i am upset with Jackie for cheating on her husband Kevin, who by all indications is a good man, father, and provider. i understand the heart wants what the heart wants, i just can't figure why Jackie's heart is wanting given that she has a good and again by all indications faithful man waiting for her at home. And since Eddie doesn't know Jackie has a husband and 2 count them 2 children it's hard to fault him for sleeping with her. Even if he did know, he's not the one who took vows. i don't know, i guess i'm just trying to figure why they hooked up and where their relationship is leading. If the hospital installs the Pyxisdispenser will they continue to have nooners or will they end it? Although since Jackie has invested in a 2nd cell, i guess she's planning to continue to shtup Eddie. i must admit i found the bit Jackie does with the phones to be really funny. Edie Falco has great comedic timing. Kevin and Eddie call Jackie at the same time, she's holding a phone in each hand and says simultaneously into both receivers "can't talk now, love you" and hangs up before either caller can respond.
And as well as Ms.Falco and cast can make you laugh, they can choke you up too. Dr.Cooper who at first view, you right off as a complete doofus shows a very tender and competent bedside manner with an elderly patient. A few scenes later that patient dies. Student nurse Zoey takes it hard, and Jackie consoles her by saying "everybody has a first---it's never easy---and if it does become easy it's time to quit".
Equally moving are a moment between nurse Momo and Zoey. A 5yr old boy is being treated for injuries after falling from playground equipment. The boy is a twin and Momo reveals that he had a twin who died when he was a year old.
Another scene i enjoyed was when Jackie and Kevin meet with their 10 yr old daughter Grace's school nurse, teacher and school district shrink. The concern is that the child has "generalized anxiety disorder". As they're looking at one of Grace's drawings the first thing i noticed was that even though the work is well executed, there is no color. i figured that was what triggered the scholastic concern. i was right. my hubby quipped "hey maybe the kid only had a pencil and no color crayons". i agree with Grace's parents that their child does not need to be medicated. i like the stance Jackie took on that issue.
For anyone who may have missed Nurse Jackie's first 4 eps, or you just want to watch them again, Showtime is airing a marathon on Saturday July 4, 2009 at 8:00pm Nurse Jackie's 5th episode of season 1 will air on Monday July 6, 2009. [Please check your local listings].

Nope. It's not my birth name, but my older brother gave me the nickname sookie when i was a baby.

i am a child of the south, a "boomer", born in 1958, a child of the television age. This was a time when "African-Americans" referred to themselves as "colored". In fact on my birth certificate under racial description, "colored" is the word that is used. Today i still affectionately refer to myself as a "colored child". my paternal great grandpa was Blackfoot Nation, and my maternal great grandmother was also Native American, [but i have not found out which Nation]---i affectionately refer to that part of my heritage as 'injun'---hey i'm never going to be described as politically correct and have no desire to be.
my mother was a woman who was far ahead of her time in terms of "feminist" survival. Long before it was fashionable, she was a single parent. She did have support, and not just financial from my pop, but they did not live together as husband & wife. In fact they never did take that walk down the aisle...but that's another story. Mom was a woman who worked outside the home long before most women of her generation would have even thought of making that choice, much less do it. She fully appreciated the value, neccessity, and strength of a loving extended family. She did not need anyone to tell her it "takes a village".
When mother was at work, i, the youngest of 4 (2 sisters 1 brother & me), was alternately cared for by mother's eldest sister, "auntie" as we used to call her, and our nextdoor neighbors. They were like family to us. We called the elder woman 'grandma' (to this day I do not know her given name), and her daughter Miss Elsie, or more usually 'aunt'Elsie. They were very religious folk. God fearing, bible reading, honest, and i and my family loved them dearly. 'Aunt'Elsie always made sure my days were full of activity, but one of my favorite times of the day was when she would look at her watch and say "oh my, we'd better hurry, it's almost time for my stories". By her 'stories'
she of course meant the day's soap operas. For Elsie and her mother, watching the soaps was sort of a guilty pleasure, but at the same time they made it seem sacred. It was a ritualistic activity. Her favorites were The Edge of NightThe Secret Storm and General Hospital
Paul Harvey would say i am giving you "the rest of the story" so that you may better understand its importance, and how it relates to the spirit of this blog. Which is to say we all have drama of some level going on in our lives, so sometimes the plotlines of our favorite shows may seem either tame, empathetic, or absurd, depending on where life may take you on any given day.
