Suspense. Beautiful Women. Handsome Men. Great Dialogue. Terrific acting. Fantastic directing. Breath-taking scenery of international locales. And action action and still more action.
If any or all of these key words are what you seek when choosing which movie to see, RUN, do not walk to see the newest James Bond movie, Skyfall. Fans have been waiting since 2008 for Skyfall to hit movie screens. Skyfall is the 23rd film of the James Bond franchise, and coincides with James Bond's 50th anniversary.
The thing i like most about the subliminal thread that runs throughout Skyfall is the blending of the modern with the traditional and how one should employ and have respect for both as it is essential to adaptation in a changing world.
Speaking of breath-taking and handsome---2 words: Daniel Craig. OMG! Not only does the man have the most devastatingly blue eyes one may ever lay eyes upon---his physique is impressive to say the least. But it's not only about eye-candy. Mr. Craig is fully in the moment of every scene and bringing more layers than a filo dough pastry to his 007.
Dame Judi Dench as M has acting chops to spare. What she can do with just a look, speaks decibles in the highest ranges. Javier Bardem as Mr. Silva is the villain you will love to hate and with whom you can commiserate. Not an easy trick to pull off but Mr. Bardem does and quite skillfully. Naomie Harris as Eve may not be a crack markswoman but she is game for whatever M asks of her and matches Mr.Bond double entendre for double entendre and it is extremely satisfying to watch them play off each other.
Bérénice Marlohe as Severin is glamorous and fragile as a 'Bond girl' in the best tradition of the archetype. As i try to avoid spoilers whenever possible all i will say about Ralph Fiennes' Mallory, aside from a brilliant performance, is resist the impulse to judge this book by his cover. Ben Whishaw as Q is not only adorable, he is whip-smart. Albert Finney's performance as Kincade is rock solid.
There are an assortment of baddies & good guys that no Bond film would be complete without and audiences will be on the edges of their seats with every encounter between the opposing sides.
Skyfall's theme song performed by Adele [written by Adele and Paul Epworth] is the lovely twist of lemon on this perfectly dry and shaken cinematic martini.
Skyfall rated PG-13 is in movie theaters now.
