Columbia Pictures' Annie Movie Re-boot Now Filming in NYC: Starring Jamie Foxx, Quvenzhané Wallis, Cameron Diaz, Rose Byrne, and Bobby Cannavale

Filming began this month on location in New York for the movie Annie, starring Jamie Foxx, Quvenzhané Wallis, Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale, and Cameron Diaz. The film is scheduled to be released by Columbia Pictures on December 19, 2014. It is set in the present day and will incorporate real New York locations.

The Broadway classic that has delighted audiences for generations comes to the big screen with a new, contemporary vision in Columbia Pictures’ musical comedy, Annie. Director/Producer/Screenwriter Will Gluck teams with producers James Lassiter, Will Smith & Jada Pinkett Smith, and Shawn “JAY Z” Carter, Jay Brown, and Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith with a modern telling that captures the magic of the classic characters and original show that won seven Tony Awards.

BOBBY CANNAVALE JOINS THE CAST OF "ANNIE" OPPOSITE QUVENZHANÉ WALLIS, JAMIE FOXX, AND CAMERON DIAZ

CULVER CITY, Calif., August 19, 2013 - Overbrook Entertainment, Marcy Media, director Will Gluck and Sony Pictures Entertainment have cast Tony Award nominee Bobby Cannavale in Columbia Pictures' Annie, it was announced today by Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures, and Hannah Minghella, president of Production for the studio.

Cannavale will play the role of Guy, a bulldog political advisor to Foxx's character as he runs for mayor of New York. Annie is slated for release on Christmas Day, 2014. The cast also includes Rose Byrne.

Annie is being directed and produced by Gluck and produced by James Lassiter, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Will Smith through Overbrook Entertainment, and by Shawn "JAY Z" Carter, Jay Brown, and Tyran "Ty Ty" Smith through Marcy Media. Gluck is currently revising the film's screenplay, which was written by Emma Thompson and rewritten by Aline Brosh McKenna based on the musical stage play "Annie," book by Thomas Meehan, music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and on "Little Orphan Annie," © and ® Tribune Media Services, Inc. The film is being overseen at the studio by Andrea Giannetti and Devon Franklin.

Bobby Cannavale currently can be seen in Woody Allen's critically acclaimed film Blue Jasmine with Cate Blanchett and Sally Hawkins. Upcoming films for the actor include the Jon Favreau-directed Chef, in which he stars alongside Favreau and Scarlett Johansson, and Imagine, with Al Pacino, Jennifer Garner and Annette Bening , directed by Dan Fogelman. Cannavale, already an Emmy Award winner, has been nominated for two Emmys this year – in the comedy category for "Nurse Jackie" and in drama for "Boardwalk Empire." He was nominated for his second Tony Award for his performance alongside Chris Rock in "The Motherf**ker with the Hat."
